It is almost all about networking

The EAC Business & Investment Forum is focus on people meeting and business match-making. We will have many interesting speakers but the focus is match-making and to build new relationships.

Tickets are for a 2 day program in Nairobi, Kenya, reserve 28th April for a field visit to Konza City Technopolis

Beside the whole day of conference on 27th April and a cocktail reception in the evening, we will arrange a day of field visit to Konza City Technopolis in Kenya on 28th April, 2022.

During the EAC Business & Investment Forum 2019 held in Sweden the visiting delegation from East Africa was taken to visit Scania and their test site in Södertälje. This was a great day to learn about sustainable solutions for fuel but also some fun as all visitor was allowed to test drive Scania trucks and buses.

          Healthtech

Access and affordability of quality healthcare remains an important factor in the quality of human life. Health technology can provide crucial solutions to address the needs of the populace, including:

          • Improved dissemination of public health information and facilitation of public discourse and dialogue on major public health threats.
          • Enhanced remote consultation, diagnosis, and treatment through telemedicine.
          • Strengthened collaboration and cooperation among health workers, including sharing of learning and training approaches.
          • More effective health research and the dissemination and access to research findings.
          • Ability to monitor the incidence of public health threats and respond in a more timely and effective manner.
          • Improved efficiency of administrative systems in health care facilities.

The forum will provide an opportunity of members of the business community engaged in these areas to find new partners and to provide the needed solutions.

Can Africa take the lead in clean energy? In many places in Africa waste is a problem but in Sweden for most government and many companies it is an asset. What new waste to energy and waste collection and management system can we see. What can Africa learn from Sweden and what can Sweden learn and develop in Africa. We had many delegations visiting us in Sweden but now we want to talk to more in Africa. This will be a topic for discussion and matchmaking. This picture was from when visitors from East Africa during EAC Business & Investment Forum 2019 visited a biogas production site in Southern Stockholm in Sweden. This was also part of our program in Sweden.

          Edutech

ICT is today an important support tool for educators and greatly improves access to information and learning opportunities. Countries like Kenya have commenced a Digital Literacy Programme aimed at instilling digital skills among school going children and bringing equitability in the classroom all over the country. This is in recognition of the fact that digital literacy is a vital component of everyday life including work-life education.

The Covid-19 pandemic provided valuable experience on the importance of ICT in education, as schools with access to ICT were able to continue with classes through remote learning. Developing countries were the most affected owing to the inadequate ICT infrastructure to support e-education. The Forum hopes to attract the participation of investors in e-education who will partner with local investors to offer solutions which will bridge the gap.

ICT in education is worldwide used to enhance management of education and to enhance the digital literacy of learners. Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda have put in place integrated web-based management solutions for effective management of educational institutions. Through these systems, governments can access accurate data of their education system which enables them to effectively apportion resources in terms of learning materials, teacher training and performance management among others.

          FinTech

Africa is becoming the hub of fintech thanks to the widespread use and access of mobile technology. Since the inception of M-Pesa in Kenya in 2007, access to financial services has expanded to 96% of the Kenyan population. This is being replicated in most countries in the region where M-Pesa has set up shop while others have developed their own versions of mobile money technology that are easily accessible and user-friendly such as Tigo Pesa.

Thanks to these innovations, mobile money has revolutionized entrepreneurship in the region and has opened more opportunities for innovation in the financial and business sectors. Other areas where integration and application of ICT solutions have revolutionized the business environment are insurance, banking, and pensions. Vast opportunities exist in the EAC member states for collaboration in the operationalization of these innovations.

Today the development of all kinds of e-business or trading on the stock and market nationally or internationally demand secure and trustworthy ICT solutions.

A continued focus on ICT will enable innovative solutions to promote the development of applications within a vast area such as

          Greentech

The Forum has for three years investigated the opportunities of Greentech generally and will this year focus on Greentech in the light of ICT:

Climate change, pollution and loss of natural habitats and biodiversity, remain some of the main environmental challenges faced by many countries today. However, ICT can help provide more environmentally sustainable models of economic development and environmentally friendly technologies and applications. Examples of areas of potential investment and collaboration between Sweden and EAC member states include Green transport, sustainable energy generation, and solid waste disposal. These are areas which Sweden has wide experience and expertise, and which hold much promise for partnership with members of the business community in the EAC.

          AgriTech

This is the first time that the Forum will have agritech as one of its core areas of discussion. The inclusion of this theme is due to the realization by developing countries of the importance of ICT in the agriculture sector.

The aim of integrating technology and technological innovation in agriculture is to improve the efficiency and output of agricultural processes. Agritech applications are due to several different types of agricultural and technological innovations whose objective is to grow more food in less space and with fewer inputs.

The Forum hopes to bring together stakeholders and experts with rich experiences in agritech and discuss the ways in which the Integration of Information and Communication Technology in agriculture can spur agricultural productivity and efficiency by addressing the following concerns:

          • Farming technologies
          • Harvesting techniques
          • Sorting and packaging
          • Quality storage
          • Quality control and tracking.
